#4 CSM men dominate the competition winning the Erik Anderson Invitational; Mines women place sixth overall out of 26 teams

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Colorado School of Mines cross country teams were impressive in just their second meet of the season at the Erik Anderson Invite at Plantes Ferry. The Mines men won the team title decisively by 58 points in the 25 team race while the women finished sixth in a strong field of Division I and Division II squads.

The Oredigger men were paced by All-American Sean Gildea the top overall finisher out of 248 competitors in the 8 K race with a time of 24:03.29. Gildea's time was the fourth-fastest time in the 8 K in the history of CSM cross country.

The Mines men finished in three of the top five spots. Andrew Epperson placed third with a time of 24:31.82 while Russell Drummond came in less than a second behind Epperson with a time of 24:32.50.

Mack McLain finished in the top ten in 10th-place finishing in a time of 24:53.56 while Paul Geimer just missed the top ten placing 13th with a time of 25:03.79. Derek Alcorn had a strong showing in 15th-place with a time of 25:05.42.

The CSM women finished three places ahead of regional opponent Regis University in the race led by Marie Patton who finished 19th overall with a time of 22:26.18 in the 6 K race. Chloe Gustafson posted the next best finish for the women placing 22nd finishing in a time of 22:33.17. Hannah Schuster also placed in the top 25 as she finished 24th with a time of 22:38.22.

Mines will compete in two weeks at the Fort Hays Tiger Open on Saturday, October 8th in its the final meet before the 2011 RMAC Championships hosted by Regis University at Willis Case Golf Course in Denver, Colo. on Saturday, Oct. 22nd.
