Laws and Zywicki named RMAC Runners of the Week; Men up to fifth in nation, women enter national rankings at 22nd

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of
Mines’ Sydney Laws and Ben Zywicki have been named the RMAC
Women’s and Men’s Runners of the Week. This is the
first time that Laws has earned this honor and the second time
Zywicki has been named Runner of the Week.
Laws, a senior from Arvada, Colo. (Arvada West H.S.), posted her
third top-ten finish in as many meets as the top finisher on the
women’s side among the seven teams that competed in the meet
for points. Laws placed second overall (18:15.65) out of 68
runners. A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection for the 2009 season, Laws
won the Rust-Buster Invite and finished eighth overall out of 266
runners at the Woody Greeno Invite.
Zywicki, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Rampart H.S.),
finished in the top five for the third consecutive meet and was the
top finisher on the men’s side among the eight teams that
competed for points. Zywicki finished second overall out of 102
runners (24:18.45). A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Zywicki won
the Rust-Buster Invite and finished fifth overall out of 341 total
runners at the Woody Greeno Invite.
In other cross country news, the CSM men moved up two spots to
fifth in the national rankings. It is the third time in the last
four years that the men have been ranked as high as fifth in the
nation. The Oredigger men were ranked fifth during both the 2006
and 2007 seasons. The CSM women are ranked in the top 25 for the
first time this season. The Oredigger women are currently ranked
22nd marking the first time the squad has been ranked since the
2006 pre-season rankings when the women began the season ranked
17th.
The Orediggers will compete at the RMAC Championships on Saturday,
October 24th at Wash Park in Denver, Colo. The open race will begin
at 8:45 am followed by the women's race at 10:00 am and the men's
race at 11:00 am.
