Mines Volleyball Adds Five During Early Signing Period

GOLDEN – Fresh off the program's first-ever RMAC Championship, as well as its fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Colorado School of Mines volleyball team signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to join the program in the fall of 2013, as announced on Friday by head coach Jamie Skadeland

Ashlyn Eitemiller (Chadron, Neb.), Taryn Huber (Austin, Texas), Abby Reuland (Tucson, Ariz.), Katie Timmons (North Richland, Texas) and Alanna Winfield (Houston, Texas) all inked their letters during the NCAA's Early Signing Period.

Eitemiller, a 5-10 outside hitter from Chadron High School, is on her way to becoming a three-sport, four-year varsity letter winner for the Cardinals. She earned First Team Western Conference honors as well as All-State recognition from the Omaha World Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star. She recorded numerous school records, including kills in a season (359), kills in a career (1,002), season attack percentage (.420), service aces in a game (17), service aces in a season (75) and service aces in a career (197). Eitemiller also earned First Team Western Conference Scholar-Athlete laurels and earned a spot on the NSAA Academic All-State Volleyball Team.

Skadeland on Eitemiller:  "Ashlyn is going to have a great career here at CSM. She is extremely hard-working and coachable. I think Ashlyn will catch on to our offensive and defensive system quickly. She will be a great leader by example."

Huber, a 5-5 defensive specialist and libero from Westwood High School, also participated for the Texas Eclipse Junior Volleyball Club. As a prep, Huber earned Westwood Defensive Player of the Year honors as well as spots on the Fraulein Volleyfest and Mizuno Texas Showdown All-Tournament Teams. She earned All-District Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Central Texas honors in addition to earning a spot on the All-Leader Team. Taryn earned Academic All-State honors as well.

Skadeland on Huber: "What I really like about Taryn is she never stops moving. It's go-go-go with her and I really like that quality in a defensive specialist. Taryn is a great fit for this school and will be a great representation of our program."

Reuland, a 5-9 outside hitter from Salpointe Catholic High School and the Zona Volleyball Club, comes to Golden after earning All-City honors during her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. Also a three-year varsity starter, she served as a team captain and earned Honorable Mention All-State honors as well as the Arizona Scholar-Athlete Award.

Skadeland on Reuland: "Abby is very athletic and versatile. These are great qualities to have an outside hitter. This will allow Abby to be more dynamic in the outside position. She is a strong student who will do great in the classroom as well."

Timmons, a 5-10 setter from Richland High School and the Tejas Volleyball Club, comes to Mines after earning three-straight Varsity MVP honors for RHS, as well as three-straight First Team All-District Honors. A four-year letter winner and team captain, Timmons was also named one of PrepVolleyball.com's Class of 2013 Senior Aces. In addition, she earned Academic All-State honors and was named a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist.

Skadeland on Timmons: "I am really looking forward to having Katie join our program. Katie is one of those players that is competitive, hard-working and will do whatever it takes. She is extremely coachable and the program will be better with her here."

Winfield, a 6-2 right side hitter from Clear Lake High School and the Absolute Volleyball Academy, joins the Orediggers after a prep career that culminated with her team claiming a berth in the State Seminfinals. She led her team to an undefeated District Championship en route to First Team All-District honors. She earned Academic All-State honors and Honorable Mention All-Texas Team honors.

Skadeland on Winfield: "Alanna is a very talented right side hitter. I plan on having Alanna on the floor next fall. She is great size and a smart hitter. She will blend well with the rest of the freshman class. With one more season of club, Alanna will be ready for RMAC Volleyball."
