No. 12 Volleyball Claims Outright RMAC Title With 3-0 Win Over UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS – Led by a team-high 14 kills by junior Melanie Wannamaker, the No. 12 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team claimed a 3-0 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Friday evening to earn the squad's first-ever RMAC regular season title.

Mines (23-5, 17-2 RMAC) claimed its first conference volleyball title with the win and also set a new program best in wins with 23 on the season. 

The Orediggers have now won 16 of their last 17 matches while moving their record against teams ranked in the NCAA Regional Rankings to 11-1 on the season. 

The squad claimed the outright RMAC title behind set scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-12.

After a 10-10 tie score, the Orediggers started to pull away from the Mountain Lions (18-9, 12-6 RMAC) and claimed the first set by a score of 25-21.

A very competitive second stanza that featured five kills apiece from senior Jackie Stabell and Wannamaker, and saw the Orediggers claim a 25-23 victory.

Mines closed out the match with a 25-12 victory in the final set to also improve its program-best conference win total to 17 victories (17-2). 

Wannamaker led the team with 14 kills on a .500 attack percentage while adding with four blocks on the defensive side.

Stabell posted 13 kills on a .250 attack percentage to inch closer to second on the Mines all-time kill list, and the All-American now sits just three kills shy of second on the all-time charts after upping her season total to 349 on the season.

Fellow senior Holly Hutchison added 12 kills on a .292 hitting clip while adding a team-high five blocks and six digs on the defensive end.

Sophomore Sarah Pekarek added a team-high 14 digs while freshman Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood added 37 assists to help Mines claim the outright RMAC title.

Mines will open up the RMAC Tournament with a first round matchup against a team that is yet to be decided. The quarterfinal matchup will take place on Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m., at Lockridge Arena in Golden
