UCCS Upsets No. 17 Mines, 3-0

GOLDEN – Visiting UC-Colorado Springs hit an astounding .339 in securing a 3-0 victory over No. 17 Colorado School of Mines at Lockridge Arena on Saturday afternoon in Golden.

Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19.

Mines (6-4, 1-1 RMAC) hit just .189 as a squad while posting 20 total attack errors, compared to just seven by UCCS (7-3, 2-0 RMAC).

The Orediggers were led offensively by Sarah Pekarek, who recorded 10 kills on a .409 attack percentage. She added 10 digs and four block assists defensively.

Laura Beckmann and Jackie Stabell followed with nine kills apiece, while freshman Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood led the offense with 28 assists.

Hannah Margheim and Corrine Din each tied Pekarek with 10 digs defensively.

The Orediggers will next be in action on Friday, September 21, when the squad hosts No. 9 Metro State in Golden.
