Mines Takes Down UAFS, 3-0
GOLDEN – Just hours after opening the season with a 3-0 victory over UIW, the No. 25 Colorado School of Mines volleyball squad made it two sweeps in two matches with a 3-0 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith in the nightcap of the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Volleyball Classic in Golden.
Mines improved to 2-0 behind game scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20.
Senior Jackie Stabell had another strong game, this time leading the team with 15 kills. Fellow Senior Anna Padget-Shields had perhaps the best match after notching 11 kills on a .417 attack percentage.
Sophomore Sarah Pekarek added nine kills on a .318 attack percentage and Melanie Wannamaker contributed nine kills of her own to the Oredigger offensive output, while freshman setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood notched 45 assists in just her second career game.
Senior Alese Madenwald and junior Hannah Margheim combined for 29 digs to lead the defensive effort in the match.
Mines will look to stay unbeaten when it takes on Dallas Baptist and Tarleton State at 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively, at Lockridge Arena on Saturday.
