No. 25 Mines Sweeps Incarnate Word To Open Season

GOLDEN – The No. 25 Colorado School of Mines Volleyball squad looked every bit deserving of their national ranking on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory in the season opener over Incarnate Word as part of the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Volleyball Classic at Lockridge Arena in Golden.

The Orediggers (1-0) took the three-game sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-22.

Mines got 11 kills from senior Holly Hutchison on a .412 attack percentage, while fellow senior and RMAC Preseason Player of the Year Jackie Stabell added 10 kills of her own on an identical .412 attack percentage to lead the offense.

Freshman setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood notched 31 assists in her first collegiate go-round while also tying for the team lead with nine digs. 

Senior Anna Padget-Shields and sophomore Sarah Pekarek each added eight kills of their own while Preseason RMAC Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Margheim tied with her freshman teammate for the team lead with nine digs.
