Serra-Hsu named Daktronics Second Team All-Central Region


GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines' Elizabeth Serra-Hsu has earned Daktronics Second Team All-Central Region honors for the 2009 season, as announced today by the Daktronics Central Region Volleyball Coordinator.

A 5'11" junior outside hitter / opposite from Davis, Calif. (Davis High School), Serra-Hsu also earned First Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) recognition this fall.  Serra-Hsu finished the season ranked first in the RMAC in service aces (43), second in service aces per game (0.36), third in points (469.0), fourth in kills (384), fifth in points per set (3.94), seventh in kills per set (3.23), 10th in digs (357), 13th in digs per set (3.00) and 21st in hitting percentage (.225).  Serra-Hsu also compiled 57 assists, 80 total blocks (0.67 blocks per set) and 1,042 total attacks in 2009.

Earlier this season, Serra-Hsu was named to the Holiday Inn Denver West Village Oredigger Volleyball Classic (MVP) and St. Edward's University Hilltopper Volleyball Classic all-tournament teams.  Serra-Hsu, who was selected as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on August 31st, will begin her senior season ranked fourth in the CSM career record book in digs (1,173), total attacks (3,412) and service aces (96), as well as fifth in kills (1,207).

As a sophomore in 2008, Serra-Hsu earned First Team All-RMAC, All-RMAC Tournament and Honorable Mention All-Central Region (AVCA) honors.

Colorado School of Mines established new single-season program records for overall victories and conference victories in 2009.  CSM recorded a 13-6 mark in the RMAC and tied for third place in the East Division.  Mines' berth as the #8 seed in the 2009 NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament marked the second-ever NCAA post-season appearance for the CSM volleyball program (2005; lost 3-0 to Nebraska-Kearney in the Southwest Region quarterfinals).

The Orediggers, who recorded a new program record for consecutive matches won (nine) in 2009, were ranked as high as #10 in the Central Region rankings this fall.
