#1 seed UNK defeats #5 seed CSM, 3-0, in RMAC Tournament semifinals


KEARNEY, Neb. - #1 seed Nebraska-Kearney defeated #5 seed Colorado School of Mines in three sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-11) on Friday evening, November 13th, in the Semifinals of the 2009 RMAC Volleyball Tournament at the Health & Sports Center.  For the box score, CLICK HERE.

The Lopers (33-1 overall), who came into the tournament as the third-ranked team in the nation (NCAA Division II), got a match-best 10 kills from 2009 RMAC Player of the Year Nikki Scott (.350 at the net).  Cola Svec contributed 32 assists and 12 digs, Jeri Walkowiak (three block assists) finished with eight kills and Katlyn Heiserman registered a match-best 15 digs.

Elizabeth Serra-Hsu (two service aces) led the Orediggers (22-9 overall) with eight kills.  Alese Madenwald led CSM with nine digs, Kaity Edmiston (six kills) had five block assists, Jackie Stabell contributed eight digs and Emily Collett handed out 23 assists.  Edmiston has now moved into sole possession of third place in the CSM career record book for total blocks (448).

UNK will square off against #3 seed Metro State (23-7 overall) in the 2009 RMAC Volleyball Tournament Championship Match on Saturday night, November 14th, at 6:00 p.m. MST (7:00 p.m. CST in Kearney, Neb.) at the Health & Sports Center.  The winner of the RMAC Volleyball Tournament will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament, which will be held on Thursday - Saturday, November 19th - 21st.

The Orediggers were ranked #10 in the most recent (November 12th) Central Region rankings.

The eight-team bracket for the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament is scheduled to be released at www.ncaa.com on Sunday night, November 15th, at approximately 6:00 p.m. (MST).
