Concordia - St. Paul defeats CSM volleyball, 3-0, in Central Region Quarterfinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. - #1 seed Concordia University, St. Paul defeated #8 seed Colorado School of Mines in three sets (25-14, 25-10, 25-20) on Thursday night, November 19th, in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament quarterfinals at the Gangelhoff Center. For the box score, CLICK HERE.
Concordia - St. Paul, the top-ranked team in the country, remains undefeated at 32-0 overall. Megan Carlson (.385 hitting %) recorded a 14-kill, 12-dig double-double for the Golden Bears, who advance to face #4 seed Wayne State (Neb.) College (29-7 overall) in the Central Region semifinals on Friday night, November 20th, at 7:30 p.m. MST (8:30 p.m. CST in St. Paul, Minn.) at the Gangelhoff Center. Cassie Haag had 10 kills, Maggie McNamara dished out 35 assists, Taylor Fieldsted collected 10 digs and Sadie Kessler (.471 hitting %) contributed nine kills and nine digs.
Anna Padget-Shields had a team-most seven kills as the Orediggers concluded the 2009 season at 22-10 overall. Kaity Edmiston (two block assists) and Elizabeth Serra-Hsu (eight digs) finished with six kills apiece, Alese Madenwald led CSM with 11 digs and Emily Collett distributed 26 assists.
Colorado School of Mines established new single-season program records for overall victories and conference victories in 2009. CSM recorded a 13-6 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and tied for third place in the East Division. The Orediggers' berth in the 2009 NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament marked the second-ever NCAA post-season appearance for the CSM volleyball program (2005; lost 3-0 to Nebraska-Kearney in the Southwest Region quarterfinals).
The Orediggers, who recorded a new program record for consecutive matches won (nine) in 2009, were ranked as high as #10 in the Central Region rankings this fall.
A one-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (August 31st) selection this fall, Serra-Hsu was a First Team All-RMAC selection. Serra-Hsu was also named to the Holiday Inn Denver West Village Oredigger Volleyball Classic (MVP) and St. Edward's University Hilltopper Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Teams. Edmiston, who earned First Team Academic All-RMAC and CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District accolades, was a Second Team All-RMAC pick. Kirstie Bunting garnered RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (November 9th) honors in 2009 and Keesha Erickson earned recognition on the Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll.
Edmiston departs the Orediggers ranked second in the CSM career record book in block assists (388), third in total blocks (450), fourth in kills (1,266) and fifth in total attacks (3,159).
