Serra-Hsu, Edmiston named to 2009 All-RMAC volleyball teams


GOLDEN, Colo. - Two student-athletes from the Colorado School of Mines volleyball team have earned post-season honors from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, as announced today by the RMAC.  Elizabeth Serra-Hsu earned First Team All-RMAC honors while Kaity Edmiston garnered Second Team All-RMAC recognition.

Serra-Hsu, a 5'11" junior outside hitter / opposite from Davis, Calif. (Davis High School), is currently ranked first in the RMAC in service aces (tied - 38), second in service aces per game (0.35), third in points (434.5), fifth in both points per set (3.95) and kills (357), seventh in kills per set (3.25), 10th in digs (337) and 13th in digs per set (3.06).  Serra-Hsu, who was selected as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on August 31st, is now ranked fourth in the CSM career record book in both digs (1,153) and total attacks (3,343), as well as fifth in both kills (1,190) and service aces (tied - 91).  Earlier this season, Serra-Hsu was named to the Holiday Inn Denver West Village Oredigger Volleyball Classic (MVP) and St. Edward's University Hilltopper Volleyball Classic all-tournament teams.  As a sophomore in 2008, Serra-Hsu earned First Team All-RMAC, All-RMAC Tournament and Honorable Mention All-Central Region (AVCA) honors.

A 6'1" senior middle blocker from Palisade, Colo. (Palisade High School), Edmiston earned First Team Academic All-RMAC and CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District honors earlier this season.  Edmiston is currently ranked second in the RMAC in blocks per set (1.02), total blocks (112.0) and block assists (105).  Edmiston is also ranked sixth in the RMAC in points (388.5), seventh in hitting percentage (.286), eighth in kills (tied - 324), ninth in points per set (3.53) and 13th in kills per set (2.95).  As a junior in 2008, Edmiston garnered Pre-Season All-RMAC, Second Team All-RMAC, First Team Academic All-RMAC and CoSIDA / ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic All-District accolades.  Edmiston, who was also named to the Days Inn Golden Oredigger Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team in 2008, went on to earn the Academic Achievement Award from the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association in 2008.  As a sophomore in 2007, Edmiston earned Second Team All-RMAC, First Team Academic All-RMAC and NCAA Division II All-Southwest Region (AVCA) honors in volleyball.

While competing for the CSM track & field team in the spring of 2008, Edmiston was a member of CSM's 4x100m relay team that established a new outdoor school record (48.31).  Edmiston, who also established a new CSM outdoor school record in the 400m hurdles (1:03.28) in 2008, earned First Team All-RMAC honors in the 400m hurdles at the RMAC Outdoor Championships.  Edmiston went on to garner Second Team All-RMAC accolades in the 100m hurdles at the RMAC Outdoor Championships.  Edmiston, who qualified for the CSM Dean's List in 2007-08, earned recognition on the Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll during the 2008 indoor track season and First Team Academic All-RMAC recognition during the 2008 outdoor track season.  Selected as the Pre-Season RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year in volleyball in 2006, Edmiston went on to be named Honorable Mention All-RMAC later that season.  In the spring of 2007, Edmiston established a new CSM outdoor school record in the women's 100m hurdles (14.92).

The Orediggers, who went 13-6 in the RMAC in 2009, established new single-season program records for overall victories and conference victories this fall.

Colorado School of Mines (21-8 overall) will compete as the #5 seed in the upcoming RMAC Tournament, which will be held on Thursday - Saturday, November 12th - 14th, at Nebraska-Kearney.  The Orediggers will face #4 seed UC - Colorado Springs (18-9 overall) in the Quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. MST (5:00 p.m. CST in Kearney, Neb.).

The winner of the RMAC Tournament will receive an automatic berth as one of the eight teams in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament, which will be held on Thursday - Saturday, November 19th - 21st.  The location, pairings and match times for the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament are yet to be announced.
