The 2012 season marks Cortis' third season as the Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at Mines.

The Orediggers earned their second trip to the Elite Eight in just three seasons in 2011 while making their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and claiming the Centrla Region Championship in Coach Cortis' second season. CSM was 10-2-2 in the RMAC and went on to win the programs first RMAC Tournament Championship defeating Colorado Mesa, 2-0. Mines led the RMAC in goals (50), assists (40), goals against average (0.74) and shutouts (12).

In 2010 the CSM women made their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in Cortis' first season. Mines also qualified for the RMAC Tournament for the fourth season and hosted a first round game.

Cortis previously served as the Girls Director of Coaching for the Stingers Soccer Club in Evergreen, Colo. Cortis served as head coach for two girl’s competitive teams while responsible for year-round programming and coach and player development.

Cortis spent five seasons (2004-08) as the Associate Head Women’s Soccer Coach at the University of Minnesota. During her tenure, Cortis served as the defensive and recruiting coordinator. In 2008, Cortis helped lead the Gophers to the Big Ten Regular Season Championship and an NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance, posting an overall record of 27-3. Cortis also spent time in the college ranks coaching at the University of Missouri, Colorado College and the University of Chicago.

During her time in Minnesota, Cortis worked with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association, Bangu Tsunami Soccer Club and the Woodbury Soccer Club. Cortis led her ’91 ODP Team to a Region Championship in 2007 and a third-place finish at 2008 ODP Nationals.

A 2000 graduate of the University of Chicago, Cortis earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science. A four-year member of the varsity soccer team, Cortis helped lead the Maroons to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a trip to the Final Four in 1996.

Cortis resides in Golden with her husband John Simpson, a former wrestler at CSM, who was inducted in the the CSM Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009. Cortis holds a USSF B License and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
