Mitchell tabbed Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year; Stark and Woodworth earn Second Team honors

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of
Mines’ Kayla Mitchell, Jessica Stark and Megan Woodworth all
earned Daktronics All-Central Region honors as announced this
afternoon. The team was voted on by the sports information
directors of the 25 institutions in the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference (RMAC) and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
(NSIC) that have women’s soccer. Mitchell was selected as the
Central Region Player of the Year and was named to the First Team.
Stark and Woodworth both earned Second Team All-Region honors.
Mitchell, a senior forward from Ontario, Ore. (Ontario H.S.), was
selected as the 2009 RMAC Player of the Year and was a unanimous
First Team All-RMAC pick. This season, Mitchell leads the
conference in goals (30), points (69) and game-winning goals (14).
Mitchell ranks sixth in Division II in goals per game (1.30) and
points per game (3.00). During the conference season, Mitchell was
named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week four times and was selected
as the RMAC Women’s Athlete for the Month of October.
Mitchell has five hat tricks this season, including a four-goal
performance against CSU-Pueblo, and established CSM single-game
records for points (8) and goals. For her efforts in the classroom,
Mitchell was selected as the 2009 RMAC Women’s Soccer
Academic Player of the Year, was named First Team Academic All-RMAC
and earned CoSIDA / ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic
All-District honors.
Stark, a junior defender from Abilene, Texas (Cooper H.S.), earned
Second Team All-RMAC honors this season. Stark and the Oredigger
defense rank first in the RMAC with 14 shutouts, second in goals
allowed (tied – 18) and third in goals against average
(0.78). This season, Stark has started all 23 games scoring seven
goals and tallying one assist. Stark also earned First Team
Academic All-RMAC recognition and was named CoSIDA / ESPN the
Magazine First Team Academic All-District.
Woodworth, a midfielder from Centennial, Colo. (Smoky Hill H.S.),
became the first CSM women’s soccer player to earn First Team
All-RMAC honors as a true freshman. Woodworth ranks seventh in the
RMAC in assists (tied – 7), eighth in points (23) and 10th in
goals (tied – 8).
The third-seeded Orediggers (19-4) will play the #1 seed Metro
State in the Central Region championship match on Friday, Nov. 20th
at Auraria Field on the campus of Metro State at 11:00 am. The
winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of the
Midwest Region championship match between Grand Valley State and
Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at 1:00 pm at Auraria
Field.
