Johnson, Mitchell and Stark named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District


GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines women’s soccer players Adrea Johnson, Kayla Mitchell and Jessica Stark have been named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District VII (College Division), as announced this afternoon by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Johnson, a senior midfielder (Highlands Ranch, Colo. / Mountain Vista H.S.) is a physics major with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average. Johnson is three-time First Team Academic All-RMAC selection. As a junior during the 2008 season, Johnson earned NSCAA/adidas Honorable Mention College Scholar All-West Region honors and earned an Academic Achievement Award from the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association. This season, Johnson has played in 19 games making 18 starts while tallying a pair of assists.

A senior forward from Ontario, Ore. (Ontario H.S.), Mitchell has a 3.629 cumulative grade point average in civil engineering. Mitchell was named the 2009 Women’s Soccer RMAC Academic Player for the second consecutive season earlier this month and is a three-time First Team Academic All-RMAC selection. As a junior in 2008, Mitchell was a Third Team NSCAA/adidas College Scholar (College Division) All-American selection. Mitchell was also named First Team NSCAA/adidas College Scholar All-West Region and earned an Academic Achievement Award from the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association. Mitchell has started all 19 games this season for CSM and currently leads the RMAC in goals (26), goals per game (1.37), points (59), points per game (3.11) and game-winning goals (12) and is tied for sixth in assists (7).

Stark, a junior defender from Abilene, Texas (Cooper H.S.), is a civil engineering major with a 3.878 cumulative grade point average. Stark is a two-time First Team Academic All-RMAC selection who earned an Academic Achievement Award from the NCAA Division II Athletics Directors Association as a sophomore. Stark has started all 19 games this season and ranks third on the team in goals (5) and points (tied – 11). Stark has helped the CSM defense post 13 shutout wins, most in the conference.

The Orediggers (16-3, 12-3 RMAC) will close out the 2009 regular season at home on Sunday, Nov. 1st against Colorado Christian at noon.
