Metro State had a pair of chances early in the match. First, CSM

minute. Becca Mays countered off Schulze’s save with a header
that was wide right of the goal post 30 seconds later.

ball far post but the ball was cleared off the line by a Metro
State defender. Megan Woodworth drilled a free kick from near
midfield on target in the 15th minute but Metro State goalkeeper
Becca Maloney came out to make the save.
Mitchell just missed after finding space near the top of the box
and turning to hit a shot that went just over the top of the
crossbar in the 35th minute. In the 38th minute, Mitchell sent a
corner kick into the box that bounced around before Stefanie
Frelinger’s shot was blocked and eventually cleared out by
MSCD.
A free kick in the 50th minute snuck past Maloney but Mitchell was
unable to track the ball down before it went out-of-bounds.
Mitchell found space in the 58th minute as she played a through
ball to Angelica Schira just behind the Metro State defense but
Maloney came out to stop the attempt. Madison McQuilliams’
shot in the 60th minute was cleared off the goal line by
Schira.

scored sending the match to a second overtime period. The
Roadrunners tallied a pair of shots in the second overtime period
while Aubrey Bagley recorded a shot on goal for Mines but neither
team scored sending the match to a shootout.
In the shootout, CSM goalkeeper Briana Schuzle stopped
MSCD’s first penalty kick attempt by Becca Mays pushing her
shot wide right and off the post. Mitchell followed and converted
to give CSM a 1-0 lead. Metro followed converting its penalty kick.
