CSM defeats Washburn University, 2-0; Claims first win at new CSM Soccer Stadium

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado
School of Mines women's soccer team claimed its first win of the
2009 season posting a shutout victory over Washburn, 2-0, on Friday
afternoon at the brand new CSM Soccer Stadium. For the box score,

Mines scored its first goal with 15 minutes remaining in the first
half. At the 30 minute mark, unanimous Pre-Season All-RMAC pick
Kayla Mitchell got the ball at her feet, found space and dribbed
past a Washburn defender to beat the keeper for her first goal of
the 2009 campaign.
CSM increased its lead in the 62nd minute when Mitchell found Allison Heeg streaking down the field. Mitchell connected with Heeg on a long pass from just past midfield giving Heeg her first goal of the season.
The Oredigger defense held the Lady Blues to five shots in the game and just two corner kicks. Briana Schulze posted the shutout victory as she recorded one save.
Mines (1-0) will host the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday, August 30th at the CSM Soccer Field at 12:00 pm.
