Diggers Place Seven At Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open

GOLDEN – Led by top honors at 174 pounds for Josh Brown, the Colorado School of Mines wrestling team posted seven place finishes at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Saturday at Lockridge Arena in Golden. 

Brown posted a 3-0 record in the tournament, including a 10-4 decision over Ken Banning and a 6-5 decision over James Jones to move into the championship bout. There, He posted a third-period pin over unattached teammate, Michael Lunsford, to take top billing in the weight class. 

Luis Gurule (125) and Sean Burroughs (157) both posted runner-up nods as well after each ended his day with a 3-1 record. 

Alec Bird finished third at 285 pounds, while Colby Watters (133), Gable Prach (141) and Cory Wittwer (149) added fourth-place finishes. 

The Orediggers will return to action on February 2, when the squad travels to Las Vegas, N.M., for a 4 p.m. matchup with New Mexico Highlands.
