Orediggers grab 14 top-six finishes at Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team hosted the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Saturday, January 30th, at Lockridge Arena.

The Orediggers had 14 top-six finishes, including Chad Lousberg (3-0 with two falls), who took first place in the 133 lb. bracket. Mike Brown (157 lbs.; 3-1 with two falls), Austin Cordova (149 lbs.; 3-1 with one fall), Brennen Knerr (197 lbs.; 2-1 with one fall) and Bryan Stansbury (HWT; 2-1 with one fall) all recorded second-place finishes for Mines while Ryan Swanson (174 lbs.; 3-1 with one fall) finished third.
Jacob Guynes (165 lbs.; 3-2), Bradley Price (184 lbs.; 3-2 with one fall) and Robert Tucker (unattached at HWT; 3-2) all registered fourth-place finishes while Mikie Burgess (unattached at 141 lbs.; 2-2) took fifth.
Josh Brown (unattached at 174 lbs.; 2-3), Brandon Sheldon (184 lbs.; 2-3 with one fall), Jesse Snider (141 lbs.; 1-1 with one fall) and Ryan Sprackling (157 lbs.; 2-1) all earned sixth-place honors.
CSM sent two other attached wrestlers, including Mick Ramsey (149 lbs.; 1-2) and Travis Wokasch (149 lbs.; 1-2).
Seven other Orediggers competed unattached, as well, including Elias Arias (125 lbs.; 0-2), McLain Cowan (149 lbs.; 0-2), Gabe Martinez (149 lbs.; 0-2), Nate McClain (157 lbs.; 0-2), Chad Stich (157 lbs.; 0-2), Mitch VeDepo (133 lbs.; 2-2 with one fall) and Jake Wilson (165 lbs.; 0-2).
The Orediggers (2-6-0 overall, 1-4-0 RMAC) will resume the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference portion of their 2009-10 dual schedule by competing at #9 Nebraska-Kearney and #17 Fort Hays State University on Friday and Saturday, February 5th and 6th, respectively.
Mines will then close out its regular-season schedule by hosting Mesa State College on Wednesday, February 17th (7:00 p.m. at Volk Gym in Golden, Colo.), and wrestling at Colorado State University - Pueblo on Thursday, February 18th (7:00 p.m. at Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colo.).
The NCAA Division II Super Regional Four / RMAC Championships will be held on Saturday, February 27th, at Adams State College (Plachy Hall) in Alamosa, Colo.
