CSM wrestling defeats Embry Riddle, falls to #18 SFSU and #19 Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Colorado School of Mines went 1-2 in three wrestling duals on Saturday, January 23rd, at Antelope Gym on the campus of Grand Canyon University. CSM lost to 18th-ranked San Francisco State University (27-10) and 19th-ranked Grand Canyon (31-12) before defeating Embry Riddle (Ariz.) University by the score of 44-12.
In CSM's opening match against San Francisco State, Travis Wokasch (157 lbs.), Jordan Larsen (165 lbs.) and Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.) posted individual victories for the Orediggers, who fell to 1-5-0 overall (1-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). Fifth-ranked Jesse Snider (149 lbs.) and Brennen Knerr (197 lbs.) registered Mines' only wins - both of which came via fall - in the Orediggers' loss to the Antelopes. GCU, which is also an associate member of the RMAC in wrestling, improved to 9-5-0 overall (3-0-0 RMAC) while CSM saw its record slip to 1-6-0 overall (1-4-0 RMAC). The Orediggers came away victorious in all but two bouts against Embry Riddle University (4-10-0 overall) in their final dual on Saturday. Snider, Larsen, Lousberg (fall), Ryan Swanson (174 lbs.; fall) and Bryan Stansbury (HWT; fall) recorded wins as Mines improved to 2-6-0 overall. CSM will return home to host the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Saturday, January 30th, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo.
The Orediggers will then resume the RMAC portion of their 2009-10 dual schedule by competing at Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State University on Friday and Saturday, February 5th and 6th, respectively.
Mines will then close out its regular-season schedule by hosting Mesa State College on Wednesday, February 17th (7:00 p.m. at Volk Gym in Golden, Colo.), and wrestling at Colorado State University - Pueblo on Thursday, February 18th (7:00 p.m. at Massari Arena in Pueblo, Colo.).
The NCAA Division II Super Regional Four / RMAC Championships will be held on Saturday, February 27th, at Adams State College (Plachy Hall) in Alamosa, Colo.
