Gallo and Langas sign with CSM women's basketball program

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball program has received National Letters of Intent from Courtney Gallo and Tory Langas to begin playing for the Orediggers in 2010-11, as announced today by CSM Head Coach Paula Krueger.

Gallo, a 5'8", guard from Lone Tree, Colo. (Chaparral High School), is a three-time letterwinner for the Wolverines.  As a junior in 2008-09, Gallo earned Second Team All-Conference recognition while averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.  A team captain for the Wolverines, Gallo established a new single-season school record for three-point field goals made and led Chaparral to the Great Eight in the State tournament last winter.  The owner of three Academic letters, Gallo is a member of the National Honor Society.

"Courtney can flat out shoot the three and will help us spread the defense," said Krueger, who was selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) East Division Coach of the Year and the RMAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2008-09.  "Courtney as great court awareness and will be a great addition to our perimeter."

A 6'0" center from Highlands Ranch, Colo. (ThunderRidge High School), Langas has earned three letters in basketball for the Grizzlies.  Langas, who is also a two-time letterwinner in volleyball, is a member of the National Honor Society.  Langas has earned two Academic letters, as well as First Team Academic All-State recognition in both basketball and volleyball.

"Tory brings a strong presence to the low block," said Krueger, who became the winningest coach in the history of CSM women's basketball (94 victories) last winter.  "Tory has solid footwork and strong fundamentals.  She adds needed depth to our post position."

Mines was picked to win the RMAC East Division in the 2009-10 Pre-Season Coaches Poll.  Emily Dalton was named Pre-Season East Division Player of the Year and was a unanimous Pre-Season First Team All-RMAC and First Team All-East Division selection.  The Orediggers, who were picked to finish second overall in the RMAC, went 19-11 overall (14-5 RMAC), earned a share of the RMAC East Division title and advanced to the RMAC Tournament Championship last winter.  Furthermore, Mines established a new single-season program record for conference victories and tied a single-season program record for overall victories in 2008-09.

The Orediggers will begin their 2009-10 season at the Super 8 Tipoff Classic (hosted by Northern State University) on Sunday and Monday, November 15th and 16th, in Aberdeen, S.D.  CSM will play Wayne State (Neb.) College on Sunday before taking on Northern State University on Monday.  The Orediggers will open the home portion of their schedule by hosting Hawaii Pacific University on Saturday, November 21st, at 2:00 p.m. at Lockridge Arena in Golden.

"Both Courtney and Tory are great student-athletes," Krueger stated.  "They both possess a strong work ethic, along with the desire to continually improve on the court and in the classroom.  We are excited to add them to our CSM family."
