Metro State defeats Oredigger women, 59-37

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of
Mines women’s basketball team fell to Metro State on Friday
evening by a score of 59-37 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
(RMAC) action at the Auraria Event Center.
The Roadrunners scored the first basket at the 19:18 mark and CSM
tied the score at four on an Angie Charchalis three pointer with
17:35 on the clock. The game would not be tied again as Metro State
retained the lead for the remainder of the game.
MSCD shot 42.6 % for the game while Mines shot just 33.3 % from
the field and was 2-for-12 from the three-point line. The
Orediggers attempted 11 free throws and made just three while the
Roadrunners were 10-for-14 from the charity stripe. Mines shot just
one free throw in the second half.
Metro State (11-7, 6-4 RMAC) held a 41 to 30 advantage in
rebounding. Alyssa Benson scored a game-high 16 points (6-for-8
FG). Brandi Valencia finished with 15 points, four rebounds, two
blocks and two steals. Jasmine Cervantes added 10 points and nine
rebounds.
Angie Charchalis led CSM with 10 points along with three rebounds
and three assists. Brecca Gaffney contributed eight points and 10
rebounds. Emily Dalton added six points and five rebounds.
The Orediggers (12-6, 6-4 RMAC) will play at Regis University
tomorrow evening, Saturday, Jan. 30th at 7:00 pm.
