2010-11 marks Art Siemers' ninth season as the head cross country coach at CSM and his sixth year as head coach of the Oredigger track & field teams.
The 2010 men's track & field team finished 12th at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Both Mark Husted (800 m) and Mack McLain (1500 m) won National Titles. Those two National Titles brought Siemers career total to four during his tenure at Colorado School of Mines. Marie Patton also earned All-American honors in the 3,000 m steeplechase.
At the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, CSM athletes earned 11 All-American honors. Eight athletes earned All-American honors for the first time in their careers including the women's distance medley relay (Briana Suppes, Kristen Rinedollar, Hilary Hurst and Marie Patton) as well as sprinter Kiera Benson (60 m) as well as Ryan Hanley and Ruseel Drummond who were part of the distance medley relay for the CSM men. The Oredigger men finished 24th while the women placed 35th at the Championships.
The 2009 men's cross country squad finished third at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships, the highest finish ever by a squad at the NCAA Championships. Aaron Swift and Ben Zywicki both earned All-American honors. Women's runner Sydney Laws posted the highest finish by a women's runner from CSM at the National Championships finishing 10th to earn All-American honors.
Following the 2009 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships,
Siemers was selected as the RMAC Men's Indoor Track & Field
Coach of the Year, as well as the RMAC Women's Indoor Track &
Field Coach of the Year. Siemers led the CSM men to a ninth-place
showing at the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field
National Championships, marking the best-ever finish for a CSM team
(men or women) at the indoor championships. Five CSM
student-athletes combined to earn All-American honors eight times
at the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National
Championships, and the men's DMR squad captured CSM's third-ever
national title in track & field. Three CSM student-athletes
earned All-American honors at the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor
Track & Field Championships.
During the 2008 cross country season, the CSM men posted their
fourth consecutive top-ten finish (ninth place) at the NCAA
Division II National Championships. Ben Zywicki earned All-American
honors for the second time in as many years for the Oredigger men,
who were ranked as high as fifth in the nation during the 2008
season.
In 2007-08, two Orediggers (Zywicki, Michael Rooney) earned
All-American honors at the 2007 NCAA Division II Cross Country
National Championships while a grand total of 12 student-athletes
garnered All-American recognition during the 2008 NCAA Division II
Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The
2008 Oredigger men's outdoor track & field team also achieved
an all-time program-best #10 national ranking before going on to
record its best-ever finish (tied - 8th) at the national
championships.
Since 2001, Siemers has helped to establish Colorado School of
Mines as a national powerhouse by leading 111 NCAA Division II
individual national qualifiers to 127 All-American awards in both
cross country and track & field.
The CSM cross country and track & field teams have earned the

A Chicago native, Siemers graduated from Fenton High School in
1990 as an Illinois AA All-State performer in the 1600m. Competing
for Illinois State University, Siemers lettered four times in both
cross country and track & field, earned MVC All-Conference
honors in both sports. During his collegiate career, Siemers posted
a provisional national qualifying mark for the NCAA Division I
indoor nationals. Siemers holds a bachelor's degree in Education
from Illinois State and a master's degree in Education from the
University of Colorado at Boulder.
As a post-collegiate athlete, Siemers has placed as high at 8th in
the 1999 USATF indoor nationals in the mile run and qualified for
the 2004 US Olympic Trials Marathon. In October of 2008, Siemers
placed first in his division at the 17th annual Peak Performance
Maine Marathon in Portland, Maine.
Siemers resides in Golden with his wife, Erica, and his two dogs,
Buster and Sandy.
2010-11 marks Marianne Hutchens' third season as the Women's Strength & Conditioning Coach / Assistant Track & Field Coach at Colorado School of Mines.
Hutchens coached her first sprinter to All-American honors as Kiera Benson placed eighth in the 60 m at the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. Benson also qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100 m.
Hutchens, who served as an assistant track & field coach and an assistant strength & conditioning coach in a part-time capacity at Mines in 2007-08, also worked as a facilities supervisor in the CSM Student Recreation Center during the 2007-08 school year.
Prior to her arrival at Mines, Hutchens spent four years (2003-04 to 2006-07) as an assistant track & field coach at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Hutchens, who coached the pole vaulters at James Madison, also served as the Assistant Director for Compliance during her final season with the Dukes in 2006-07.
Hutchens' coaching resume also includes one year (2002-03) as a volunteer assistant coach for the CSM track & field team and one season (2001-02) as a graduate assistant strength & conditioning coach at Illinois State University.
During her collegiate career at Purdue University, Hutchens became the first-ever women's pole vaulter for the Boilermakers' track & field squad and was a member of two Big Ten team champions (indoor in 1999, outdoor in 2000). Hutchens, who earned recognition on the Coaches Honor Roll in 1999-00, graduated from Purdue in 2000 with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology.
Hutchens, who went on to earn her master's degree in Athletic Administration from James Madison University in 2007, is Level I USA Track & Field Certified and Level II USA Track & Field Certified in Jumps, Sprints / Hurdles, Relays and Combined Events.
A 1996 graduate of Merrillville High School in Indiana, Hutchens competed in track & field during her prep career.
Hutchens and her husband, Josh, who is the head wrestling coach
at CSM, make their home in Golden.
