Benson named RMAC Track Athlete of the Week for second time this season

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of
Mines’ Kiera Benson has been named the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week,
as announced this afternoon.
Benson, a junior from Needville, Texas (Needville H.S.), tied the
CSM school records that she holds in both the 60 m (7.58) and 200 m
(25.46) at the Air Force Academy All-Comers Meet on Friday, Jan.
15th in Colorado Springs. Benson won both events and her converted
time in the 60 m of 7.62 was a provisional qualifying mark. Benson
also placed third in the triple jump (10.82 m).
A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Benson posted a provisional
qualifying time in the 60 m of 7.60 at the CSM Alumni Extravaganza
earlier this season. That time is currently the sixth fastest time
in Division II while her time of 25.56 in the 200 m at the
All-Comers Meet is the 14th fastest time.
The Orediggers will host the Joe Davies Open on Saturday, Jan. 23rd
at Steinhauer Fieldhouse in Golden, Colo. at 9:30 am.
