Benson named RMAC Track Athlete of the Week for second time this season

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Kiera Benson has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, as announced this afternoon.

Benson, a junior from Needville, Texas (Needville H.S.), tied the CSM school records that she holds in both the 60 m (7.58) and 200 m (25.46) at the Air Force Academy All-Comers Meet on Friday, Jan. 15th in Colorado Springs. Benson won both events and her converted time in the 60 m of 7.62 was a provisional qualifying mark. Benson also placed third in the triple jump (10.82 m).

A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Benson posted a provisional qualifying time in the 60 m of 7.60 at the CSM Alumni Extravaganza earlier this season. That time is currently the sixth fastest time in Division II while her time of 25.56 in the 200 m at the All-Comers Meet is the 14th fastest time.

The Orediggers will host the Joe Davies Open on Saturday, Jan. 23rd at Steinhauer Fieldhouse in Golden, Colo. at 9:30 am.
