Benson and Jenkins earn RMAC Track Athlete of the Week honors

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of
Mines’ Kiera Benson and Peter Jenkins have been named the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s and
Men’s Track Athletes of the Week, as announced this
afternoon.
Benson, a junior from Needville, Texas (Needville H.S.), broke the
school record in the 60 m (7.58) at the CSM Alumni Extravaganza on
Saturday, Dec. 5th at Steinhauer Fieldhouse in Golden, Colo.
Benson’s time in the 60 m is currently the second fastest
time in Division II and is a provisional qualifying time for the
NCAA Championships. Benson also finished in the top five in the
triple jump (2nd, 11.14 m), 4X400 relay (3rd, 4:13.82) and the 300
m (5th, 42.97). Benson’s mark of 11.14 m in the triple jump
is 10th best in Division II.
Jenkins, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo. (Littleton H.S.) broke
a pair of records at the CSM Alumni Extravaganza. Jenkins posted a
time of 1:21.11 on the 600 m winning the event setting both a new
school record and a new Steinhauer Fieldhouse record. Jenkins also
helped the 4X400 relay finish third (3:34.01) at the meet.
The Orediggers will compete at the Air Force All-Comers meet on
Friday, Jan. 15th in Colorado Springs, Colo.
