
GOLDEN, Colo. - Former Oredigger Jason Brockel has been selected as Colorado School of Mines' lone representative on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's 12-person All-Time Men's Track & Field Team, as announced today by the RMAC.
Brockel, a four-year letterwinner in track & field at CSM (1986-87, 1989-90; redshirted in 1988) was a three-time outdoor track & field All-American in the 400m hurdles (NAIA - 1986-87; NCAA Division II - 1989). A three-time All-RMAC selection in the 400m hurdles, Brockel won the RMAC outdoor track & field title in the 400m hurdles on three occasions (1986-87, 1990).
During his junior season in 1989, Brockel won CSM's first-ever NCAA Division II track & field national title in the 400m hurdles (CSM outdoor record time of 51.11). Brockel also holds the RMAC Outdoor Championships record in the 400m hurdles (51.72 as a true freshman in 1986).
Inducted into the CSM Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, Brockel was also a standout football player at Mines during his collegiate career. Brockel, who earned four letters in football (1985-88), was a First Team All-RMAC selection as a defensive back and as a return specialist during his final season in an Oredigger uniform. Selected as CSM's Outstanding Freshman Football Player in 1985, Brockel was the recipient of Mines' Team MVP and Outstanding Defensive Player awards as a junior in 1987. Brockel, who also earned First Team All-RMAC (defensive back) and First Team NAIA All-District VII (defensive back and return specialist) as a junior, went on to garner Third Team NAIA All-American accolades as a senior.
