GOLDEN, Colo. -- Colorado School of Mines' Kiera Benson has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for events taking place between Friday, Feb. 20th and Sunday, Feb. 22nd.
Benson, a sophomore from Needville, Texas (Needville High School), won the 60 m (7.71) and 200 m (25.45) events while posting NCAA provisional qualifying times in both events at the CSM Twilight Open on Friday, Feb. 20th at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.
As a freshman, Benson qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships and finished 15th in the 60 m. Benson earned First Team All-RMAC honors in the 200 m and Second Team All-RMAC accolades in the 60 m at the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2008. At the 2008 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Benson earned First Team All-RMAC recognition in the 100 m and Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 200 m. During the 2008 season, Benson established indoor school records in the 60 m (7.62) and the 200 m (25.50) and outdoor school records in the 100 m (12.09) and the 200 m (24.96).
The CSM track & field squads will compete at the 2009 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb. on Friday, Feb. 27th and Saturday, Feb. 28th.
