CSM hosts Rocky Mountain Invitational; Dennis and Moore qualify for NCAA Championships


GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams hosted the Rocky Mountain Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16th and Saturday, Oct. 17th at the CSM Natatorium. Along with Mines, Adams State, Mesa State, Nebraska-Kearney, Colorado State and Metro State Club and CU Club all competed in the two-day meet.

CSM’s Sarah Moore qualified for Nationals in just her second collegiate meet. Moore established three new school records. Moore won both the 1-meter (218.65) and 3-meter (274.25) event on Friday evening establishing a new school record doing six dives in the 3-meter event. Moore’s score in the 3-meter event qualified her for Nationals. On Saturday, Moore qualified for Nationals in the 11-dive format as she broke the school record in both the 1-meter (459.50) and the 3-meter (512.45) winning both events.

Rainey Perkins won the 500 freestyle on Friday with a time of 5:36.48. The 800 freestyle relay comprised of Angel Forsling, Michaela McNiff, Perkins and Krista D’Innocenzo posted a time of 8:33.35 for a first-place finish.

On the men’s side, CSM diver Jesse Dennis won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the six dives format on Friday. On Saturday, Dennis qualified for Nationals doing 11-dives scoring 497.35 in the 3-meter event and 467.20 on the 1-meter event.

Aaron Miller broke the CSM Natatorium record in the 1650 freestyle winning the event in a time of 17:19.40. Mines posted 1-2-3 finishes in four events. On Friday, Kevin Wood won the 200 freestyle while teammates Andrew Corman and Miller finished second and third, respectively. Jacob Dole won the 50 freestyle and led CSM in the 100 backstroke as Andrew Zerwick and Kevin Shaw rounded out the top three. Siarhei Piletski won the 200 breaststroke while Shaw placed second and Matthew Bisping placed third in the event. Zerwick won the 200 backstroke on Saturday and Matthew Lemke and Piletski finished behind Zerwick in second and third-place.

The Orediggers will compete against Nebraska-Kearney and Morningside College (Iowa) in a dual meet on Saturday, October 24th at Cushing Pool in Kearney, Neb. beginning at 2:00 pm.
