LAKEWOOD – Steered by two two-run home runs by senior Molly Thiebaut, the NFCA No. 12 Colorado School of Mines softball team raised its season-long win streak to eight straight, completing Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Colorado Christian at Lakewood Park, 8-3.
Thiebaut finished 3-for-4 at the plate, her first three-hit effort this season, with the four RBI and two runs. The second multi-homer game of her career and first since hitting three at Nebraska-Kearney on April 10, 2010 moved her into a tie with classmate Kamee Vessey for fifth on the program's career home runs list with 20.
After stroking her team-leading fifth long ball in game one, tied for second-most in the RMAC, Vessey went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, equaling her career-high with four runs scored.
Junior Sami Springer recorded her second multi-hit game of the afternoon and team-leading sixth of the year, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, one walk and a triple.
Sophomore Cassie Ford and junior Melissa Marshall each drove in one as Ford drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the first for the game's first score and Marshall doubled in Vessey with a one-out base knock to right center in the fifth.
Senior Ashley Goletz moved to 6-2 on the rubber with her third straight win, scattering two earned runs on six hits and four walks with one strikeout over the full 7.0 innings.
Mines (15-2-1, 6-0 RMAC) and CCU (3-9, 0-2 RMAC) close the four-game set with a pair of games today, beginning at 11 a.m. in Lakewood.
