Dugwyler, Marshall and Rice set to join CSM softball
GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines softball team has received a National Letter of Intent from Elise Dugwyler and commitments Melissa Marshall and Taylor Rice for the 2013 season as announced by Head Coach Kristie Hawkins.
Dugwyler, a catcher / utility player from Longmont, Colo. (Silver Creek H.S.), helped lead her high school to the quarterfinals of the State Tournament. A 2011 CCGS All-State Selection, Dugwyler was also named the Conference Player of the Year and was selected as the Times-Call Player of the Year. A co-captain, Dugwyler led SCHS to a conference and regional championship during her career.
"Elise is a versatile player who will help us in all aspects
of the game. She's a left-handed hitter who can slap and hit
for power," said Hawkins who was named the RMAC Coach of the Year
in 2011. "She has experienced a lot of success in her high
school career and knows what it takes to compete in high stress
situations. Elise has great leadership qualities and we look
for her to have an immediate impact on the team."
Marshall, a first / second baseman from Colorado Springs,
Colo., comes from Garden City Community College in Garden City,
Kan. In 2011, Marshall earned KJCCC Division I Second Team
All-Region honors hitting .393 with 69 RBI, 21 doubles and eight
home runs. A graduate of Widefield High School, Marshall earned
All-League and All-State honors while helping her team to a State
Championship in 2006 and 2008.
"Melissa comes to us from Garden City Community College where
she has been a pivotal part of their offense," said
Hawkins. "Her ability to drive in runs in key situations will
be a huge asset to our team. She is hard working both on and
off the field and we look forward to her continued success here at
Colorado School of Mines."
Rice, a pitcher from Thornton, Colo. (Northglenn H.S.), is a
three-year letter winner. Rice is a member of the National Honor
Society and earned two Academic letters. In 54 1/3 innings of work
in her final season Rice recorded 44 strikeouts and surrendered
just 15 walks.
"Taylor is a right-handed pitcher who also has the ability to
play infield corner positions," said Hawkins. "The speed and
movement of her pitches will help add depth to our pitching
staff. We are excited to bring in someone with her versatility
on the mound, in the field or at the plate with her bat."
The Orediggers (36-24 overall) earned a share of the RMAC
Regular-Season Title on their way to the NCAA Tournament for the
second time in program history in 2011.
