Oredigger softball falls to St. Marys (TX) and Hawaii Hilo on first day of the Desert Stinger Tournament

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado School of
Mines softball team fell to St. Mary’s (TX) by a score of 3-0
and Hawai’i Hilo defeated Mines, 5-3, on Friday afternoon at
day one Desert Stinger Tournament in at Majestic Park.
The Orediggers were shutout in game one getting a pair of hits in
the game, one off the bat of Jessica Hamlin and the other from
Allysia Cisneros. Libby Balogh pitched a complete game (1-2) giving
up three runs on six hits and striking out four batters for her
first complete game of the season.
Mines jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning
against Hawai’i-Hilo in its second game of the day. After two
quick outs, an Alyson Beck two-RBI single followed by a Sarah
Lustgraaf hit thorough the left side gave CSM the lead.
UHH scored a run each in the third, fifth and sixth innings and
took the lead in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-3.
Kaleigh Starr was able to reach base with one out but the final two
batters popped out and flied out to end the game.
Kelly Unkrich dropped to 1-2 on the season as she pitched a
complete game (5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) for the second time this
season. Beck was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game.
The Orediggers (2-4 overall) are scheduled to play at 5:00 pm
against Academy of Art and St. Edward’s University (TX) at
7:00 pm on Saturday. CSM will play #4 Dixie State on the final day
of the Desert Stinger Tournament, Sunday, Feb. 14th at 3:00 pm.
