Oredigger softball drops two against Regis University; Earn #5 seed in the RMAC Tournament
DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines softball team dropped both games in a RMAC doubleheader against Regis University on Sunday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field. The Rangers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to win game one 1-0 while picking up the win in six innings with a 12-4 victory in game two.
CSM was no-hit in game one as they had two total base runners in the game. Both runners reached on walks in the second. Mines had runners on first and third with two outs but Molly Thiebaut was throw out at home trying to advance.
Bianca Holley drove in the game-winner on a soft fly ball to leftfield that Macy Jones attempted to dive for and catch in the bottom of the ninth inning. Holley struck out seven and surrendered two walks earning the win to improve to 12-13 on the season.
Libby Balogh pitched 6 2/3 innings dropping to 12-10 on the season as she surrendered just one run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and no walks.
Regis (20-26, 17-23 RMAC) used a seven-run third inning en route to a 12-4 victory in six innings in game two. Holley also picked up the win in game two improving to 13-13 on the season as she allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Kelly Unkrich dropped to 7-12 on the season with the loss in 2 1/3 innings of work. Kaleigh Starr and Molly Thiebaut (RBI) were both 2-for-3 with a run scored while Allysia Cisneros and Alyson Beck both drove in runs.
The Orediggers (22-24 overall, 18-19 RMAC) make their third-consecutive appearance in the RMAC Tournament. Mines earned the #5 seed and will play the #4 seed Mesa State on Thursday, May 6th at 9:30 am at Auraria Field on the campus of Metro State. The complete RMAC Tournament bracket can be found here.
