Akindele Notches Hat Trick And Game Winner In 3-2 Win Over No. 10 UIW
GOLDEN – A game-winning goal with 28 seconds remaining by junior Tesho Akindele, his third goal of the match, proved to be the difference for the Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team in topping No. 10 Incarnate Word by a 3-2 final on Sunday afternoon at the CSM Soccer Stadium in Golden.
Mines (2-0-0) once again rebounded from a late equalizer by the opposition behind a game-winner by the Thornton native after he notched the game winner with less than four minutes remaining in a 3-2 win over St. Edwards on Friday evening.
Akindele's hat trick, the seventh of his career, accounted for all of the Oredigger goals in the matchup. He scored first in the 15th minute when Baski Baker played the ball into the space in front of Akindele, and after receiving the ball, juked to the right past the UIW (0-2-0) keeper and slid the ball into the bottom left of the goal.
UIW notched things up in the 48th minute on a goal by Placide Buduri.
Akindele notched goal number two of the day, and number three of the season, in the 64th minute when Alex Nass made a run up the middle and gave a soft touch to Akindele who was sprinting to his left. Akindele then buried the ball in the bottom right corner to give Mines a 2-1 lead.
UIW found itself fortunate in the 77th minute when Mines scored an own goal on a long throw in from the corner that was inadvertently headed into the Oredigger goal.
Mines put the game away for good in the 89th minute when Akindele took a Seun Ogunmodede pass and knocked it in from the top of the box.
Manville Strand moved to 2-0-0 in goal for the Orediggers after notching seven saves, including six in the final 45 minutes.
The Orediggers will next be in action on September 7 when they host West Texas A&M at the CSM Soccer Stadium in Golden beginning at 7 p.m.
