Strand named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week; Mines ranked 13th in Division II, second in the Central Region


GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Manville Strand was selected as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for games played during the week of August 31st.

Strand, a freshman goalkeeper from Las Vegas, Nev. (Spring Valley H.S.), helped the Orediggers to three shutout victories. Strand played all 270 minutes and made eight saves. Strand has started all four games in net for CSM this season and has allowed just one goal in 360 minutes.

In other news, Mines is ranked 13th in the most recent NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Division II National Poll and second in the Central Region Poll. The Oredigger men defeated the University of Mary (3-0), Upper Iowa (2-0) and Missouri S & T (1-0) in non-conference action last week.

The Orediggers (4-0) will travel to Austin, Texas and St. Edward’s University for a pair of non-conference games. CSM plays #9 Incarnate Word on Friday, Sept. 11th at St. Edward’s at 1:30 pm (MST). Mines will take on St. Edward’s on Sunday, Sept. 13th at 12:30 pm (MST).
