CSM soccer teams earn NSCAA College Team Academic Award

GOLDEN, Colo. – Both the men’s and
women’s soccer teams at Colorado School of Mines have earned
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team
Academic Awards as announced this morning.
Colorado School of Mines was one of 97 schools that had both their
men’s and women’s programs receive this honor. The
teams that received this honor posted a team cumulative grade point
average of 3.0 or higher during the 2008-09 academic year.
The Oredigger men posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.25
for the 2008-09 academic year. This season, seven student-athletes
received Academic All-RMAC honors. Kenan Bisic, Trevor Braun and
Jeff Nelson all earned CoSIDA / ESPN the Magazine Academic
All-District accolades. CSM made its second trip to the NCAA
Tournament in program history finishing the 2009 season with a
record of 11-2-1 in conference play and 15-3-4 overall.
The CSM women posted a 3.29 cumulative grade point average for the
2008-09 academic year. This season, Kayla Mitchell was named the
2009 RMAC Women’s Soccer Academic Player of the Year and was
also named CoSIDA / ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic
All-American. Along with Mitchell, five other players earned
Academic All-RMAC honors. Both Adrea Johnson and Jessica Stark were
named CoSIDA / ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District.
The Oredigger (19-5-1, 13-3 RMAC) women advanced to the Elite Eight
of the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer
Championships.
