Nelson named NSCAA College Scholar First Team All-West Region

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of
Mines’ Jeff Nelson has been named National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA) College Scholar First Team All-West
Region, as announced today by the NSCAA.
Nelson, a senior forward from Laramie, Wyo. (Laramie H.S.), was a
First Team Academic All-RMAC selection in 2009. A geological
engineering major with a 3.611 cumulative grade point average,
Nelson earned CoSIDA/ ESPN the Magazine Second Team
Academic All-District honors. For his efforts on the field, Nelson
garnered First Team All-RMAC accolades for the 2009 season. A First
Team Daktronics and NSCAA All-Central Region pick, Nelson
led the team in both goals (12) and points (28). Nelson finished
the 2009 season ranked second in the RMAC in game-winning goals (5)
and fourth in points.
As a junior in 2008, Nelson played in all 20 matches and drew 17
starts. Nelson scored three goals (one game-winner) and garnered
Daktronics First Team All-Central Region honors. Nelson
was also named Second Team Academic All-RMAC.
In 2007, Nelson played and started all 22 matches tallying one
assist and earned First Team Academic All-RMAC accolades. As a
redshirt freshman in 2006, Nelson appeared in nine matches.
The Orediggers finished the 2009 season ranked 18th in the final
Division II National Poll. CSM earned a bid to the 2009 NCAA
Division II Men’s Soccer Championships for the second time in
program history and finished the season with a record of 15-3-4
overall and 11-2-1 in RMAC play.
