#15 CSM scores early for a 1-0 win over Regis

GOLDEN, Colo. – The 15th-ranked Colorado
School of Mines men’s soccer team won its fourth straight
match posting a 1-0 victory over Regis University on Sunday
afternoon at the CSM Soccer Stadium.
Mines scored the game-winner just two minutes and 29 seconds into
the match. Kenan Bisic’s flip throw sailed into the box and
RU goalkeeper Wally Fink mishandled the ball which ended up at the
feet of Jeff Nelson. Nelson controlled the ball and scored his
team-leading 12th goal of the season. The assist was Bisic’s
fourth of the season.
Each team had multiple opportunities as the two teams combined for
38 shots in the match. The CSM defense held off the Rangers
attempts including a point-blank shot from Jordan Brandel that a
Mines defender kicked off the goal line in the first half. In the
second half, RU’s Nathan Kafer had a one-on-one with CSM
goalkeeper Manville Strand but Jacob Juett dove in front of the
shot to block it out-of-bounds.
Strand made three in the match as he faced 20 total shots to earn
his eighth shutout of the season in goal.
The Orediggers (14-2-3, 10-2-1 RMAC) will close out the regular
season on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd at #24 Metro State at 2:30 pm. CSM, the
#2 seed in the RMAC Tournament, will face the #3 seed Metro State
on Friday, Nov. 6th in Durango, Colo. at noon.
