Men's Basketball To Open RMAC Slate Against WNMU, NMHU

GOLDEN – The Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team will open up the RMAC portion of its schedule this weekend with matchups at Western New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands on Friday and Saturday, respectively. 

The Orediggers (3-1) will take on the Mustangs (1-3) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before closing out the weekend with an 8 p.m. matchup against the Cowboys (2-1) on Saturday in Las Vegas, N.M. 

Mines opened the season with an 87-83 double-overtime victory over Minot State on November 10 in Golden before suffering a 75-72 loss to Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney, Neb., on Sunday, November 18. 

Last weekend, Mines posted a 90-89 victory over Dallas Baptist before closing out the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 101-52 victory over Haskell on Saturday, November 24. 

The Orediggers currently lead the conference with an average of 87.5 points per game, while also leading in field goal percentage (51.5).

Sophomore Brian Muller leads the team with an average of 19.5 points per game while also adding 3.0 assists and 3.2 steals per contest. He opened the season with 28 points in Mines' double-overtime win over Minot State, and has not scored less than 16 points in any one game this season. He has also recorded at least four steals in each of the last three games and has recorded at least three assists in every game this season. He is currently second in the RMAC in scoring and steals per game. 

Junior Trevor Wages, the reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, follows Muller on the scoring list with 18.5 points per game which places him third in the conference. The 2011-12 Second Team All-RMAC selection also leads the league with an average of 9.8 boards per game and is tied for the conference lead with 2.2 blocks per game. Wages has not scored less than 15 points in any contest, including a season-high 21 in 22 minutes against Haskell on Saturday. 

Juniors Luke Meisch and Nico Mucci follow with averages of 12.2 and 11.8 points per game, respectively, while Meisch sits third in the RMAC with an average of 8.2 rebounds per game. 

WNMU has lost three of four games to start the season, with the squad's lone victory coming by a 61-60 final on November 20 against Hawaii-Hilo in Hilo, Hawaii. The squad's three losses have come to Grand Canyon (69-58), MSU-Billings (67-61) and Maryville (70-58). 

Chad Carter leads the team with an average of 12.3 points per game while Lucio Luttrell follows with an average of 11.3 points per game. Merle Branch leads the team with an average of 6.8 rebounds per game. 

NMHU opened the season with a 79-66 loss to Lubbock Christian on November 9, before posting consecutive wins over Iowa Wesleyan (100-78) and Northern New Mexico (103-59). LaVell McDade leads the team with an average of 15.7 points per game, while Mannie Cass and Roland Fitch follow with averages of 12.3 and 12.0 points per game, respectively.
