Mesa State, CSM prevail on first night of Mines Tipoff Classic

GOLDEN, Colo. - Mesa State College (NCAA Division II) defeated Azusa Pacific University (NAIA) by the score of 92-64 and Colorado School of Mines (NCAA Division II) got a 94-60 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (NAIA) in opening-day action at the Mines Tipoff Classic on Friday night, November 20th, at Lockridge Arena.
Five players reached double figures in scoring for Mesa State (1-0 overall) in Friday's opening contest, including Mike Dominguez (7-of-11 FG, 6-of-6 FT), who led the Mavericks with 21 points. Lance Fite (6-of-9 FG) recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double while Jase Herl narrowly missed a triple-double with 15 points, nine assists and nine boards. Dominique Johnson (10-of-14 FG) came away with a game-high 25 points for Azusa Pacific (3-1 overall). For the box score, CLICK HERE.
In Friday's second game, Mines' Dale Minschwaner (8-of-14 FG, 4-of-4 FT) had a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double while Sean Armstrong (four steals) and Brett Green (5-of-7 three-point FG, five assists) contributed 17 points apiece. Chris Goutama (four steals) dished out six assists and Gordon Galloway (10 points) hauled in seven rebounds for the Orediggers (1-0 overall). Southwestern Assemblies of God will square off against Mesa State at 5:00 p.m. and the Orediggers will host Azusa Pacific at 7:00 p.m. as the Mines Tipoff Classic concludes on Saturday evening, November 21st, at Lockridge Arena.
