Oredigger men move up to #9 in latest Central Region rankings

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines is ranked #9 in this week's Central Region rankings, as announced today by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee.

The Central Region rankings will be released each Wednesday through March 3rd.  The eight-team bracket for the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament will be announced during a webcast selection show at www.ncaa.com on Sunday, March 7th.

The winner of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Shootout will receive an automatic berth as one of the eight teams in the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, March 13th, 14th and 16th (location is yet to be announced).

The Orediggers (16-9 overall, 13-4 RMAC), who were ranked #10 in last week's NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, have won 11 of their last 12 games to move into sole possession of first place in the RMAC East Division.  The Orediggers have established a new single-season program record for conference victories (13) and are just one win away from tying the longest winning streak in program history (11 games; December 13th, 2002 - January 23rd, 2003).  CSM needs just one more victory to earn at least a share of the 2009-10 RMAC East Division Regular-Season Championship.

The top four teams in the East and West Divisions will qualify for the RMAC Shootout.  Both divisions' top seeds will host the #4 seeds, and both divisions' #2 seeds will host the #3 seeds in the Quarterfinals on March 2nd.  The RMAC Shootout Semifinals and Championship Game will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 5th and 6th, at the Colorado State Fair Events Center in Pueblo, Colo.

Following the Quarterfinals, the highest-remaining seed from the East Division will face the lowest-remaining seed from the West Division in one Semifinal, and the highest remaining seed from the West Division will play the lowest-remaining seed from the East Division in the other Semifinal on March 5th.

Altitude Sports & Entertainment will air the men's and women's RMAC Shootout Championship Games live on ALTITUDE 2 on March 6th.  Live coverage begins with the men's title game at 5:00 p.m. followed by the women's title game at 7:30 p.m.  In Denver, ALTITUDE 2 is available on Comcast 5 and DirecTV 682 (ALTITUDE 2 varies on Dish Network).  Click here to find out which channel ALTITUDE 2 is on in your area.

The Orediggers, who have clinched a berth in the RMAC Shootout, will host an RMAC Shootout Quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 2nd, at 8:00 p.m. (MST) at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo. (opponent is yet to be determined).

Mines will conclude its regular-season schedule by playing at Nebraska-Kearney (7:00 p.m. MST at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.) and Chadron State College (8:00 p.m. at Armstrong Gym in Chadron, Neb.) on Friday and Saturday, February 26th and 27th, respectively.
