Knous Named April's Athlete of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS – Following a month in which he led the Oredigger golf team to three tournament titles, including the 2012 RMAC Spring Championship, senior Jim Knous has been named the Men's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Athlete of the Month for the month of April, the conference office announced Friday afternoon.

A Basalt native, Knous recorded three top-two finishes in his three April events, including a win at the 2012 RMAC Spring Championship on April 16-17 in Litchfield Park, Ariz. He also took medalist honors at the RMAC DQ Wolf Pack Invitational on April 8-9 in Pueblo after defeating James Berry of CSU-Pueblo in a one-hole playoff. He opened the month by finishing tied for second at the weather-shortened Bob Writz Invitational on April 2.

For the month, he posted a 70.9 stroke average while leading the Orediggers to three-consecutive team titles – capped off by the school's first conference golf title since the 1968 season.

Also during the month of April, Knous was named First Team All-RMAC for the fourth-straight season and earned his first RMAC Player of the Year award. He was also named RMAC Golfer of the Week for the fifth time in his career after his individual title at the RMAC DQ Wolf Pack Invite.

Knous and the Mines golf squad will look to continue their season on May 7-9 when they take part in the NCAA Division II West/Central Super Regional in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Orediggers will enter the tournament as the No.1-ranked team in the Central Region.
