Knous named to Pre-Season All-RMAC Team; CSM picked to finish fourth in Pre-Season Coaches Poll


GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines' Jim Knous has been named to the 2009-10 Pre-Season All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Team, as announced today by the RMAC.

Knous, a sophomore from Basalt, Colo. (Basalt High School), was selected as the RMAC Men's Golf Freshman of the Year following his freshman season in 2008-09.  Las year, Knous finished in the top six on the individual leaderboard in eight of CSM's 10 events.  Knous earned medalist honors (first place) at the CSM / Regis University Fall Invitational and tied for sixth place at the RMAC Head-to-Head #1 event.  Knous placed second at the RMAC Head-to-Head #2 event, tied for first place at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) / RMAC Fall Invitational and tied for fifth place at the CSM / Nebraska-Kearney Invitational.  Knous finished fourth at the Jack Brown Memorial Tournament, tied for fifth at the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Spring Invitational and tied for fourth at the UC-Colorado Springs Spring Invitational (RMAC Head-to-Head #3 event).  Furthermore, Knous was named First Team All-RMAC in 2008-09.

Knous, who holds CSM's three-round, par-71 individual program-record score of 207 (twice in the fall of 2008), amassed a 72.81 stroke average in 31 rounds played in 2008-09.  Knous was also ranked as high as 97th in the 2008-09 Golfstat Cup, which is that organization's list of the top 250 collegiate golfers (by scoring average) in the country.  The Golfstat Cup is comprised of individuals from all divisions of competition (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and junior college).  Selected to compete as the top-qualifying individual at the 2008-09 NCAA Division II West / Central Super Regional, Knous went on to garner All-Central Region (NCAA Division II) accolades from PING in 2008-09.

The Orediggers, who were picked to finish fourth in the 2009-10 RMAC Pre-Season Men's Golf Coaches Poll, are scheduled to begin their 2009 fall season by competing in the Wayland Baptist University Pikes Classic on Monday and Tuesday, September 14th and 15th, at Grandnote G.C. in Leveta, Colo.
