Minnesota State edges out UNK for team title at NSIC / RMAC Regional Crossover; Mines ties for third place

GOTHENBURG, Neb. - Minnesota State University, Mankato won the team title by one stroke over the University of Nebraska - Kearney at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) / Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Regional Crossover, which was held on Sunday and Monday, September 27th and 28th, at Wild Horse Golf Club (par 72) in Gothenburg, Neb.

The MSU Mavericks, who trailed Colorado School of Mines by one stroke after the first two rounds of competition on Monday, concluded the two-day, three-round event at +61 (925).  UNK (926; +62), who entered Monday's action in third place, took second place while Mines and St. Cloud State University tied for third place at +68 (932).  Concordia University, St. Paul (937) finished fifth at +73.

Winona State University's Brady Strangstalien (71, 79; 71) finished at +5 to earn medalist honors while St. Cloud State University's Evan Peters (77, 73, 73; +7) and MSU's Bryant Black (74, 76, 75; +9) placed second and third, respectively.  UNK's Justin Stonacek (78, 74, 76; +12) finished fourth and Regis University's Greg Johnson (76, 76, 77; +13) placed fifth.

A frost delay pushed back tee times by over 30 minutes on Monday morning.  Wild Horse G.C. experienced wind gusts of 25-30 miles per hour throughout the tournament, yielding wind chill temperatures in the low 50's on Monday and Tuesday.

Colorado School of Mines will compete in the Fort Hays State University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 5th and 6th, at Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays, Kan.

The Orediggers will then conclude their 2009 fall season by co-hosting the CSM / Regis University Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 12th and 13th, at Blackstone Country Club in Aurora, Colo.
