Colo. School of Mines holds one-stroke lead after first two rounds at NSIC / RMAC Regional Crossover


GOTHENBURG, Neb. - Colorado School of Mines holds a one-stroke lead over Minnesota State University, Mankato after the opening day of competition at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) / Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Regional Crossover on Sunday, September 27th, at Wild Horse Golf Club (par 72) in Gothenburg, Neb.

The Orediggers posted a team score of 620 (+44) during the first two rounds of competition on Sunday and will begin the final round on Monday one stroke ahead of Minnesota State (621; +45).  The University of Nebraska - Kearney (623; +47) is currently in third place, Concordia University, St. Paul (629; +53) sits in fourth place and Fort Lewis College (632; +56) will enter the final round in fifth place.

St. Cloud State University's Evan Peters (77, 73; +6), Winona State University's Brady Strangstalien (71, 79; +6) and MSU's Bryant Black (74, 76; +6) are all currently tied for first place.  Regis University's Greg Johnson (76, 76; +8), Mines' Elliott Feng (78, 74; +8) and UNK's Justin Stonacek (78, 74; +8) will enter Monday's round in a three-way tie for fourth place.

MSU's Kyle Bahe (hole #6) and UNK's Alex Farrell (hole #3) recorded double eagles in Monday's opening round while Augustana (S.D.) College's Joel Thompson had a hole-in-one on #9 in Monday's second round.

Despite thermometer readings in the low 70's at Wild Horse G.C., wind gusts of 25-30 miles per hour throughout the first 36 holes on Sunday yielded wind chill temperatures in the low 50's.

The final round of competition at the NSIC / RMAC Regional Crossover will be held on Monday, September 28th, at Wild Horse Golf Club.
