CSM golf tied for third place after opening day of competition at FHSU Invitational


HAYS, Kan. - Colorado School of Mines is currently tied for third place after the opening day of competition at the Fort Hays State University Invitational on Monday, October 5th, at Smoky Hill Country Club (par 71) in Hays, Kan.

The Orediggers posted a team score of 305 during the opening round of competition on Monday and will begin Tuesday's final round in a two-way tie for third place (+21) with the University of Nebraska - Kearney.  Central Missouri State University (287; +3) is currently in first place, followed by Dodge City Community College (303; +19).

CSM's Sean Hovelkamp is currently tied for second on the individual leaderboard after posting an even-par 71 on Monday.  Hovelkamp was one of just four golfers in the 69-man field to card a round of even-par-or-better on Monday.

The Orediggers' Joe Schwark (75; +4) and Chad Herges are tied for 16th (75; +4) while Cory Bacon and Bobby McCracken are tied for 63rd (84; +13).

The final round of competition at the FHSU Invitational will be held on Tuesday, October 6th, at Smoky Hill C.C.
