Oredigger Football Inks 27 On National Signing Day
GOLDEN - Colorado Mines head football coach Bob Stitt announced the signing of 27 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to enroll in classes and join the Orediggers' football team for the 2012 season on Wednesday afternoon. The list includes 12 players from Colorado, 12 players from Texas and three from Nebraska.
Devin Bell WR 5-10 160 Houston, Texas/Cherokee Trail (Colo.) H.S.
Bell earned two letters in football and three in track & field as a prep at Cherokee Trail High School… Named second team all-conference as a senior… Named second team all-conference in track as a freshman… Voted top receiver on team… Named first team academic all-state as a sophomore, junior and senior… Named to the honor roll all four years… Earned an academic letter all four years.
Jason Brown TE 6-4 225 Limon, Colo./Limon H.S.
Brown earned four letters in football, three in basketball, three in baseball and three in track & field as a prep at Limon High School… Named first team all-conference all four years… Named first team all-state as a junior and senior at linebacker… Named first team all-state as a tight end as a senior… Named honorable mention all-state in basketball as a sophomore and junior… Led team to a state baseball championship as a sophomore… Superintendent's honor roll member as a freshman, sophomore and junior… Member of the National Honor Society.
Robert Brown IV DL 6-2 285 Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood H.S.
Brown lettered three times in football and four times in wrestling as a prep for Friendwood High School… Served as captain of the wrestling team for three years and captain of the football team as a senior… Led team to the state playoffs three three times… Named all-district in football… University Interscholastic League record with a 16-second pin in wrestling… Named a National Football hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete.
Stephen Candelaria DT 6-2 245 Cortez, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez H.S.
Candelaria earned first team all-conference honors as a junior and senior… Named rookie of the year as a freshman.
Jalen Champagne DB 6-2 180 Houston, Texas/Cy-Fair H.S. HIGHLIGHTS HIGHLIGHTS
Champagne lettered twice in football, twice in track & field and once in basketball as a prep for Cy-Fair H.S. in Cypress, Texas… Earned all-district honors as a senior… Earned the 2012 Cy-Fair Fighting Heart Award… Led team to a district championship as a junior and a senior, going undefeated during the regular season as a senior… Named to the honor roll all four years… Is the younger brother of current Oredigger, Tevin Champagne.
