CSM's Jahre Cheeseman caught a 52-yard scoring pass from David Pesek with less than one minute elapsed (14:02) in the first quarter to begin Saturday's scoring. Less than three minutes later, a 30-yard field goal from Dalton Lane gave the Orediggers a 10-point advantage. Adam Saur hauled in a 26-yard touchdown reception from fellow wideout Cody Renken on a halfback option pass at 7:13 in the opening stanza to provide Mines with a 17-0 lead. With the Orediggers backed up to their own one-yard line, Fort Lewis' Joel Johnson tackled Renken in the CSM endzone on an Oredigger screen pass late in the first quarter (3:34) for the Skyhawks' first points of the contest.
In the second quarter, Lane connected on a 28-yard field goal at the 13:01 mark to increase the Orediggers' lead to 18 points at 20-2. FLC responded when starting quarterback Tim Jenkins found the endzone on a one-yard plunge at 6:19 in the second period. Justin Johnson caught a pass from Jenkins on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt and fumbled while being tackled by the Orediggers' Dan Moose (six total tackles) just shy of the goal line. Johnson proceeded to recover his own fumble in the endzone to trim Fort Lewis' deficit to 10 points (20-10), but it proved to be the last score of the day for the Skyhawks.
Cheeseman scored on a 43-yard scamper (11:05), Saur caught a five-yard touchdown pass (5:57) and Lane connected from 36 yards out (2:39) in the third quarter to give CSM a 37-10 cushion heading into the final period.
