CSM got on the scoreboard first when Adam Saur caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from 2009 Pre-Season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year David Pesek at 12:31 in the first period.  Just over one minute later (11:23), FHSU knotted the game at seven apiece when Mike Garrison tossed a 70-yard scoring pass to O.J. Murdock.  Garrison scored on a six-yard jaunt with 1:15 remaining in the opening quarter to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead heading into the second period.

FHSU's C.J. Lovett, he reigning MIAA and d2football.com Special Teams Player of the Week, found the endzone on an 85-yard punt return early in the second quarter (14:34) and Jacobb Irvin scored on a nine-yard touchdown run with 6:23 remaining in the first half to provide the Tigers with a 28-7 lead at halftime.

With 1:41 remaining in the third quarter, Saur hauled in his second touchdown reception of the game - and third of the season - to bring the Orediggers to within 14 points of FHSU.  Pesek's third touchdown pass of the night, this one to Cody Renken with 2:20 left in the game, trimmed the Orediggers' deficit to just seven points.  However, Renken's first collegiate touchdown reception proved to be Mines' final score of the contest.  A 28-yard field goal by FHSU's Nathan Rausa provided the final margin of victory for the Tigers.

The Tigers, who improved to 2-0 overall, outgained CSM 170 to 18 on the ground.  James Walker carried 19 times for 107 yards while Garrison completed 19-of-27 passes for 270 yards.  Seth Blackwell led the FHSU defense with 10 total stops (nine solo).

Renken, who finished with 13 receptions in the Orediggers' season-opening game against Washburn University on August 29th, tied a CSM single-game record with 14 receptions (132 yards) on Saturday evening.  Renken also averaged 23.3 yards on four kickoff returns while Saur caught nine passes for 136 yards.  Pesek, who was sacked six times, completed 34-of-55 passes for 376 yards and Robbin Vinnola had seven catches for 58 yards.  Hunter Wardlaw (½ sack) led all players with 13 total tackles (seven solo), Alex Vigil (1.5 tackles for a loss, seven solo tackles) finished with two forced fumbles and 10 total stops and Kyle Goracke concluded the night with eight total tackles.

Renken's 14 receptions tied the CSM single-game record set by former Oredigger football / track & field standout Dayven Johnston.  Johnston's record-setting performance, which also came at FHSU, took place in CSM's 52-45 overtime victory over the Tigers on September 22nd, 2001, at Lewis Field Stadium.

The Orediggers, who missed three field goals (29, 28 and 25 yards) at FHSU, fell to 0-2 on the season.
