Adams State got on the scoreboard first when Trevor Eggleston tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Hedberg midway through the first quarter (9:10). The Orediggers, however, got a 21-yard field goal from Dalton Lane (3:57) and a fumble recovery by Kyle Goracke in the Grizzlies' endzone (3:39) later in the period to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Lane's second field goal of the contest - a 30-yard effort at 12:27 in the second quarter - and a 23-yard scoring run from David Pesek late in the opening half (1:14) provided Mines with a 20-7 halftime advantage.
In the third period, CSM kickoff specialist Colin Baker connected on a 44-yard field goal (11:28) and Adam Saur caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Pesek (1:06) to increase the Orediggers' lead to 23 points (30-7).
CSM's Jerrod Doucet scored his first collegiate touchdown early in the final quarter (12:27) on a play which involved an offensive fumble by the Orediggers, and a defensive fumble by the Grizzlies. On a 1st-and-10 play at the ASC 29-yard line, CSM's Jordan Smith took a handoff from Pesek and carried for two yards before the Grizzlies' Oscar Villa knocked the ball loose. Villa proceeded to recover the fumble and advanced two yards back to the original line of scrimmage before putting the ball back on the ground. Doucet corralled the ball and returned it 29 yards for what proved to be the Orediggers' final score of the afternoon. Adams State added a touchdown with just under three minutes remaining in the game (2:48) when Hedberg hauled in a four-yard scoring pass from Eggleston.
CSM's Robbin Vinnola finished with seven receptions for 96 yards while Saur caught five passes for 99 yards and one score. Vinnola, who finished the game with 170 all-purpose yards, also returned three punts for a total of 74 yards (long of 50). Pesek completed 18-of-32 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown (no interceptions) and Keegan Moyer carried 13 times for 52 yards. Smith finished with 31 yards on six carries, as well. Alex Vigil (two tackles for a loss) led the Oredigger defense with eight total tackles (five solo stops) while Goracke, Bunmi Adetutu (interception), Josh Ruff and Marc Schiechl each made six total tackles. Goracke snared his team-leading third interception of the 2009 campaign while Schiechl recorded two sacks. Vigil leads CSM in total tackles this season with 68 (35 solo).
Schiechl, who is CSM's all-time career leader in sacks (33.0), now leads the Orediggers in tackles for a loss (10) and sacks (6.0). With 28 career touchdown receptions (four in 2007, 13 in 2008, 11 in 2009), Saur is now just three away from tying the CSM individual career record of 31 (Jonny Chan, 2001-04).
The Orediggers, who were listed in the "receiving votes" section of the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) most recent NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll (October 12th), improved to 6-2 overall (6-0 RMAC). CSM and Nebraska-Kearney are the only two RMAC teams who remain undefeated in conference play.
Eggleston completed 30-of-42 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns (two interceptions) as Adams State fell to 3-5 overall (3-3 RMAC). Hedberg finished with eight receptions for 71 yards and two scores while punter Dustin Bolt averaged 45.7 yards on six boots (long of 61). Villa led all players with 12 total stops (five solo) while Trevor Zott (five receptions) returned seven kickoffs for 117 yards and came away with 152 all-purpose yards.

The 24-team field for the 2009 NCAA Division II football championships is scheduled to be announced on Sunday afternoon, November 8th, at 1:00 p.m. (MST) on ESPNEWS. Six teams from each of the four Super Regions will qualify for the 2009 NCAA Division II football championships.
Regular-season champions from all of the NCAA Division II conferences do not automatically qualify for the 2009 NCAA Division II football championships. However, earned access into the 2009 NCAA Division II football championships can be gained if a regular-season conference champion finishes in the top eight of the final super regional rankings. The RMAC resides in Super Region Three. The only RMAC school ranked in the most recent (October 12th) Super Region Three top 10 poll was Nebraska-Kearney (#2).
