Rangers Complete Saturday Sweep With 8-1 Win In Game Two
GOLDEN - Despite recording seven hits during the contest, the Colorado School of Mines baseball team was only able to plate one run in falling to Regis by an 8-1 final in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Jim Darden Field in Golden.
Mines (3-6, 0-2 RMAC) was stymied by the Rangers' (7-1, 2-0 RMAC) Kirby Schwein, who improved to 3-0 on the year with a complete-game victory.
Mines got another strong start from sophomore righty Ben Gilman in the contest, but a three-run third inning was enough to give Regis the sweep in the RMAC-opening doubleheader for both schools.
Gilman allowed four earned runs on nine hits over four innings while striking out seven Regis batters in the process.
Eric Shannon allowed four earned runs on five hits in three innings of relief.
Charlie Basil, Zach Bothwell, Bobby Egeberg, Shane Johnson, Evan Brown, Garrett Schirmacher and Travis Ramos each recorded a hit during the game, with Schirmacher recording the squad's only RBI on a single through the right side to score pinch runner Matt Spirek from second.
The series will conclude with Sunday's doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at noon at Jim Darden Field in Golden.
