Turner Earns Mines Student-Athlete Of The Week Award

GOLDEN - In leading the No. 5 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team to another 2-0 record on the week, sophomore midfielder Rachael Turner has been named this week's Mines Student-Athlete of the Week, athletic department officials announced Monday.

A Spring, Texas, native, Turner led the Orediggers to a 3-0 win over Colorado Mesa on Friday at the CSM Soccer Stadium and a 1-0 overtime win over Colorado Christian on the road on Sunday in the team's two-match weekend.

She led the team with three points over the stretch as the women ran their program record win streak to eight in a row and extended their program record unbeaten mark to 26 straight matches – tied for ninth-longest in Division II history.

She scored the eventual game-winner at 58:04 on Friday against Colorado Mesa and set up the golden goal with 2:35 remaining in the first overtime Sunday at Colorado Christian.

Tied for the team lead with two assists and ranked third with three goals, Turner finished weekend play with a shot on goal percentage of 1.000, placing all three tries on target.

This is her first-career Mines Student-Athlete of the Week award.
